Labiaplasty Surgery-What to Expect!
The labia procedure involves small incisions to remove and contour the excess labial tissue, or to smooth out the edges. The stitches are usually dissolvable and may not even require removal. Postoperatively, sensation and function are normal and well maintained, and sometimes even enhanced. No dressings are needed, but following surgery, you may need to wear a menstrual- type pad to absorb any drainage and to provide padding for protection and comfort to the area. Incisions are placed as inconspicuously as possible and dissolving stitches minimize any post-operative scars. Ice is applied for 24-48 hours post-operatively to help reduce swelling. Post-operative pain is typically very minimal. In many cases, the surgeon will use a long acting anesthetic local medication which may provide local pain relief for up to 12 hours following surgery. After these procedures, you should expect moderate swelling and bruising and mild spotting along the incision areas. Pain is easily managed with oral medication, and usually resolves within a few days. Showering or bathing is usually resumed on the day following surgery and normal activities started within several days though any pressure on the incisions is to be avoided. Strenuous activity, tight fitting clothing and exercise should be avoided for 3-4 weeks, and you may be told to avoid using tampons, and douches. To allow the surgical area to heal properly there must be no sexual vaginal penetration for 4-6 weeks. You can expect to see your final result in 2 or 3 months, after all local swelling has resolved.
It is a fact that most patients have little discomfort followingsurgery. There will be some bleeding the first 2 or 3 hoursfollowing surgery. The doctor may keep you in the suite for a fewhours following surgery. You will be asked to wear a panty linerand shower daily. All of this aids in the healing process. You willwant to wear loose fitting clothing for the first few days followingyour repair.Since the sutures will dissolve, you avoid the need toreturn for follow up removal. In 2 weeks, if all goes well, you willreturn for a follow up examination. We like to see our patientsevery two weeks after the procedures to be certain healing is goingproperly and to find any problem that might be developing beforeit becomes a concerning issue. Lipo-sculpting can alleviate the unsightly fatty bulges of this area and produce an aesthetically pleasing contour. During the Operation :
A special 'tumescent' solution is first injected into the region to prepare the fat cells and surrounding tissue for liposuction. This numbs the skin and compresses the blood vessels. The laser can then be inserted into the adipose layer to melt the fat into a buttery creamy solution. Two 2mm long incisions are made where the cannulae for the liposuction are then to be inserted. Suction is applied and the fat and debris are then removed rendering an instantly noticeable reduction of the mons pubis fat pad and a more aesthetically pleasing vulvar region. If there is an excess of skin after liposuction for which the compression cannot compensate, it can at times be removed by cutting some skin from the region just above the labia though the liposuction and laser utilization often results in significant skin tightening. These techniques help stimulate new collagen formation as well and this reduces wrinkles and irregularities in the skin and helps tighten the loose skin. Once the procedure is complete, the incisions are left open to allow all the fluid to drain out thereby minimizing the risk for fluid collection or hematoma formation. Pain is very minimal and return to work is quick as well.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedure: What to Expect!
Prior to the surgery itself, the patient and I as her surgeon have evaluated her anatomy in the office and discussed to what degree she desires of her vaginal tightening and where the incisions will typically be located to accomplish her goals. Of course, it is difficult or impossible to exactly measure her partner's penile girth so an approximation is made with the caveat that the vagina can stretch if made slightly too tight. During the examination under anesthesia in the operative suite and during the surgery itself the vaginal caliber is repeatedly evaluated to be sure we are in keeping with our patients stated desires in vaginal diameter and entry height, width, etc. During our procedure we seek out the damaged tissue and fascia and complete a reconstruction of the pelvic floor prior to the vaginal tightening portion to help with the durability and end result of our surgery. We utilize self-dissolving sutures here as well so that the patient can avoid returning to have the stitches removed.
